How Baby Blossoms™ baby gift basket business was born.
Ours is a story of love, hope and creativity that evolved into an exciting and creative baby gift basket business for two sisters and, more importantly, solidified a bond of strength and the entrepreneurial spirit.
My husband and I were expecting our second baby. I was eight months pregnant when I was laid off from my job of fourteen years as a graphic designer. We decided I would stay home and care for our two children. My sister Lesley, a pastry chef and restaurant owner at the time, and I talked about starting a business that would allow us to stay home with our children but would also be fun and give us a creative outlet for our talents. Suddenly our hopes seamed to be dashed.
Three weeks before my baby was due I lost my eyesight. A virus had inflamed the optic nerve of both my eyes. My unborn baby was rushed into the world prematurely. My sister Lesley, refusing to believe that I would permanently lose my sight, was busy turning her nervous energy into a one of a kind newborn gift baby gift for me.
As my eyesight slowly improved I was able to see my beautiful baby girl as well as the thoughtful gift my sister had created. In my baby’s nursery was a beautiful baby gift basket arranged as a bouquet of flowers and made up entirely of useable baby items such as socks, wash cloths, rattles, bibs, brushes and more.
After some time, Lesley and I realized that we could start our business after all. While my two girls were napping or tucked in for the night we decided to pursue our dream – baby gift baskets that were beautiful, unique and useable. We both agreed that our creations would be an alternative to flowers – a way to say congratulations and to welcome newborns into the world. We wanted our baby gift baskets to be not only visually beautiful and creative with the look and feel of floral arrangements, but also useful, something that both mom and baby could enjoy long after flowers would have withered away.
After sending our baby gift basket arrangements to family and friends, the response was fantastic! Baby Blossoms™ was officially born. Word of mouth has spread to the point where we are receiving orders from across the United States with overwhelming results some people even refusing to take the arrangements apart.
